opensignal concludes its colloquium and concert series with a 2-day festival on Friday, May 16th and Saturday, May 17th at Brown University’s Granoff Center for Creative Arts. There will be 17 performances by Brown current students/alumni and from local artists, 3 talks, and a large-scale sound installation featuring the work of over 80 composers, sound artists, and musicians from all over the world. Visiting guest artists Blectum from Blechdom, Maria Chavez, and Tara Rodgers will perform and give talks.

Archiving Electronic Music Cultures: Process, Pedagogies, and Politics
Tara Rodgers will speak on her research of the history of synthesizers, as well as introduce a new digital archiving project. Rodgers will discuss reframing the electronic music canons by addressing the questions of gender and race in the history of synthesized sound, emphasizing on how gendered and racialized metaphors inflect audio-technical language and representation.
